They help to reduce fluid spills, thereby minimizing unnecessery mess on clothing and workshop floors, which can become a safety hazard.

In addition, the perfect-fitting plugs can be left in the gearbox, should a gearbox be removed for a considerable amount of time. They can also be used in transportation to prevent dust and debris from finding their way into the gearbox.
