Nissan Motorsport Show Positive Pace at The Bend

The ACS sponsored Nissan Motorsport team have walked away from The OTR SuperSprint in high spirits after showing good pace over the weekend. The team achieved a pair of podium finishes on the Saturday with Rick Kelly in second place and Michael Caruso in third. Caruso then followed this up on the Sunday with a top ten finish, crossing the line in ninth place.

“This is a fantastic result here at The Bend.” Says Michael Caruso after his podium finish on the Saturday, “The car has been speedy all weekend and it was great to be able to convert that and bring some trophies home. To get two cars on the podium is a great feeling for the whole team. The battle with Rick was a lot of fun and demonstrated how this track can produce some good racing. The car is pretty good but we’ll still make a few tweaks overnight to try and improve. The Industrial Athlete Nissan looks fantastic and it’s great to start off a relationship with some trophies.”

Race 22 of the championship also marked Simona De Silvestro’s 50th championship race start in Supercars but she was to endure a tough weekend after contact in Saturday’s race forcing her to the back of the pack and then having to serve a drive through penalty in Sunday’s race. She finished both races in 23rd position. Simona is pleased with the performance improvements of her Altima this weekend and is looking to continue that at the upcoming endurance races. "The car felt a lot better today. So we have a lot of positives to take into the endurances races. It’s a big change over the next few events now. I’ll be sharing with Alex Rullo and we’re both really excited to head to Bathurst.”

This was the first ever race for Supercars at The Bend Motorsport Park, South Australia’s new motor racing facility, and over 40,000 motorsport fans visited the event over the weekend. “The Bend Motorsport Park is a huge benefit to South Australia and we are very pleased to see this fantastic facility in our state” Says Brenton Jordan, Australian Clutch Services Managing Director, “This will be a major boost for the automotive performance industry in South Australia and we look forward to more major events like this in the future.”

Nissan Motorsport will now return to their Braeside headquarters to prepare for the upcoming endurance series.
